Romans 13.1-5 – The Great Dance, the Cops, and You

Obey the law, because all true authority springs from the life of mutual submission shared by Father, Son and Spirit.  Join in that Dance with those who govern you.  Love them by giving them your cooperation.  They are the ones to whom Papa has given the difficult task of ruling. (2) If you get in the way of their doing a good job, you are getting in Papa’s way–not a good place for you to be.

(3) Good governance is a threat only to those engaging in inappropriate behavior.  You want to live in peace with the police?  Then do the right thing. (4) The cops are there to serve you on Papa’s behalf.  If you are working against them, be warned–they have guns and they know how to use them, as they share in the Trinity’s work of holding people accountable for their actions. (5) So obey the law, not just because you’ll get in trouble if you don’t, but because it’s the right thing to do.
