SBL Epiphany 1 – On becoming a lens (Isa 60.1-6)

“Arise, shine; for your Light has come” (Isa 60.1). To see the light is to become luminous. To experience an epiphany (a self-revealing of Papa, Jesus and Sarayu) is to become an epiphany for others. This is a big part of my image of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.  I am part of a 2,000-year tradition of people who have “lifted up our eyes” and begun to look around in the light of Jesus (60.4), and because of this we see things in an utterly unique way.

This doesn’t make us perfect; if anything, it makes our imperfections even more obvious. But it does force us to deal with reality in otherwise unreachable ways, and this is our gift to the world. Or rather, it is the way in which Papa has gifted the world with us. Our calling is to be shaped into a unique lens through which the world can see life, the universe, and everything. Our calling is to enable the world to see things worth seeing.

We shall see and be radiant (60.5).  And so shall they.
